Hearing to subject oil giant VP to lie detector test postponed again

14:23 28/09/2011

MOSCOW, September 28 - RAPSI, Igor Petrushov. A court postponed until November 11 the hearing of an appeal filed by the relatives of two victims killed in a car crash involving a LUKoil vice president against the refusal to subject him, his driver and a security guard to a polygraph test, the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI) reported from the courtroom on Wednesday.

The car crash killed a well-known gynecologist, Vera Sidelnikova, and her daughter-in-law, Olga Alexandrina, also a doctor.

On February 25, the chauffeur-driven Mercedes of LUKoil Vice President Anatoly Barkov collided head-on with the small Citroen driven by Alexandrina on Moscows Leninsky Prospect.

Barkov's driver, Vladimir Kartayev, was cleared of causing the accident, while Alexandrina was blamed for the crash. The case was dropped due to Alexandrina's death.

The crash incited a public uproar. Many critics accused the investigators of covering up for Barkov by blaming Alexandrina for the crash.

The relatives did not agree with the case's termination.

The Constitutional Court decided that recognizing the deceased as guilty contradicts with the presumption of innocence. It ruled that the relatives of the deceased have the right to insist on their vindication and object to the criminal cases termination.

According to the judge, the investigator, whose actions were appealed, did not provide enough materials on the case to the court. In this regard, the judge decided to postpone the hearing until November 11.
