Court dismisses British firm's appeal in case of imprisoned senator

17:16 10/10/2011

MOSCOW, October 10 - RAPSI, Diana Gutsul. The court dismissed an appeal against a decision satisfying British Feyline Limited's lawsuit seeking $4.55 million from Bashkiria Senator Igor Izmestyev, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI) reported from the court on Monday.

The Moscow City Court sentenced Izmestyev to life imprisonment in December 2010 for terrorism and organizing assassinations.

Yuri Bushuyev, a representative of Feyline Limited in Russia, was the victim in the criminal case against Izmestyev. Unidentified persons killed Bushuyev's wife and tried to kill him three times.

The Moscow City Court validated a district court's decision partially upholding the company's claim after reducing the interest sought by the British company.
According to the lawsuit, Izmestyev gave his wife a bill in November 2006. Irina Izmestyeva, the senator's wife, was the bill's guarantor.

The former senator and his wife did not pay the bill.

Feyline Limited, the bill's bearer, could not get in touch with the former senator and his wife. Therefore, the company referred to the court. The hearings began in July 2010.

The parties failed to reach an amicable agreement after several attempts.
