Siberian company refuses to give up infinity logo despite Nissan claim

16:49 21/01/2013

NOVOSIBIRSK, January 21 - RAPSI. The Siberia-based Sun Innovations, an ink and printing equipment manufacturer, has refused to stop using the Infiniti brand for its products and will defend the decision in court, SUN CEO Yury Kurochkin was quoted as saying on Monday.

The Moscow Commercial Court told the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI/rapsinews.com) on January 18 that the Japanese automaker Nissan asked the court to ban the Russian company from using the CLR Infinity brand.

Nissan's affiliate Nissan Jidosha Kabushiki Kaisha filed another lawsuit against Compulink and two more against the Russian computer equipment and components distributors UST Consulting in Nizhny Novgorod and SUN in the Novosibirsk Region.

Sun Incorporated said it has been using the brand since 2008 after buying the rights from its Chinese partners. The company used the brand for its core business goods at the time - wide-format printing products.

"We dont know why Nissan insists that this is extending the use of its own brand," a Sun Incorporated source said. "Are they planning to manufacture solvent ink? Why didn't they try to contest the use of this brand by the Chinese Fei Yeung Union?"

The company plans to defend its right to use the brand in court. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 28.
