17:04 17/10/2014

MOSCOW, October 17 (RAPSI) – Nikolai Polozov, an attorney for Ukrainian military pilot Nadezhda Savchenko who is suspected of involvement in the murder of two Russian journalists, claims she is mistreated at a Moscow psychiatric hospital.

Savchenko is deprived of sleep and privacy during night hours which constitutes torture, Polozov told journalists on Friday.

Savchenko cannot prepare for the upcoming trial by filing motions and petitions, according to the attorney. He said that she isn’t engaged in any medical procedures or evaluations.

He further said that he was unable to communicate with Savchenko in private as five guards were present at their meeting.

Earlier the defense team claimed no mistreatment and confirmed that Savchenko was allowed to meet her mother who came from Ukraine.

Savchenko is suspected of involvement in the murder of two Russian journalists during the shelling of separatist positions in the contested Ukrainian region of Lugansk.

Vesti correspondent Igor Kornelyuk and sound engineer Anton Voloshin were killed on June 17 in a mortar attack in the vicinity of Metallist and Mirny, small towns near Lugansk in eastern Ukraine. Both journalists were buried in Moscow.

Savchenko denies the allegations and insists she has no relation to the death of the journalists.
