12 jihadists sentenced to long prison terms in Uzbekistan

MOSCOW, April 8 (RAPSI) – Twelve members of a jihadist group have received sentences ranging from six to ten years in Uzbekistan, RIA Novosti reported on Wednesday, citing a spokesperson of the Uzbekistani Prosecutor General’s Office.

The official said that the condemned jihadists are aged between 18 and 30 and all of them live in Fergana Valley in Uzbekistan.

The investigation revealed that these individuals distributed extremist literature and audio and video materials in Uzbekistan.

The prosecution official said that apart from reading the Quran and studying Arabic to better understand the meanings of the Quran, the 12 men also received training in communication skills and ideological activity in social media and other online sources.
