Deputy governor of Kursk Region detained in bribery case

16:25 07/06/2017

MOSCOW, June 7 (RAPSI, Oleg Sivozhelezov) – The Basmanny District Court of Moscow has detained deputy governor of the Kursk Region Vasily Zubkov charged with taking a bribe until August 4, RAPSI reports from the courtroom on Wednesday.

During the hearings on Wednesday, Zubkov announced that he admits guilt and told the court that he has chronic illnesses requiring treatment. The court dismissed motions by a prosecutor and defendant’s lawyers to put Zubkov under house arrest.

As noted by investigators and lawyers, the defendant pleaded guilty only in part. He admitted that he had registered real estate in favor of his daughter and that he had talked about acceleration of the paperwork regarding a living house with an alleged bribe-giver. However, it is noted that requested cooperation was not related to violations during construction of a house.

Alleged co-conspirators of Zubkov, head of a construction firm Alexander Filimonov and an employee of a government entity Andrey Zanin as well as Natalya Kretova were also charged with bribe–related crimes.

Investigators believe that in 2015 Zubkov received a bribe in the form of real estate evaluated at as high as one million rubles (about $17,600) for helping a construction company to receive an order required to proceed with a house constructed with violations.
