Ex-school principal suspected of taking $9,000 in bribes

MOSCOW, March 20 (RAPSI, Yulia Glozman) – Investigators have opened 22 criminal cases against a former principal of one of the Chuvash Republic’s schools on suspicion of receiving more than 500,000 rubles (about $9,000) in bribes and abuse of authority, the Investigative Committee’s press service reports Tuesday.

According to investigators, from May to September 2017, the suspected woman took 75,000 rubles ($1,300) from 6 residents of Cheboksary in total for enrolment of pupils and good marks in the school diploma. Moreover, from January to June 2017, one of the suspect’s subordinates regularly gave the school official 20,000 rubles of her salary monthly.

Earlier, criminal cases were opened against ex-school principal over taking more than 400,000 rubles (about $7,000) from parents for their children’s enrolment, the statement reads.

The suspect has been put under house arrest. Her assets including a car, bank accounts have been seized, according to the Investigative Committee.
