MOSCOW, August 24 (RAPSI) – The Orenburg Regional Court has upheld detention of Yevgeny Arapov, mayor of Orenburg, who is charged with receiving a large-scale bribe, the press-service of the court has told RAPSI.

The defendant is to stay in detention until October 16.

Earlier, the deputy head of the construction department for the city Gennady Borisov was charged with receiving a 2-million-ruble bribe ($30,200). According to the law enforcement, on August 8, the official received 2 million rubles from the CEO of a commercial organization, who sought help with construction and sale of real estate in Orenburg. Borisov was apprehended soon afterwards.

Investigators also believe that the mayor and his deputy received 600,000 rubles ($9,000) as a bribe with 400,000 rubles ($6,000) designated for Arapov and 200,000 rubles ($3,000) designated to Borisov.

Currently, investigators are establishing the origin of 4.2 million rubles ($63,000) found in the mayor’s working office.
