MOSCOW, October 30 (RAPSI) – A court in Yekaterinburg has sentenced Igor Makovkin, a defendant in the case over hacking of a local Koltsovo airport’s database and stealing 1.2 billion rubles ($18.2 million) from banking accounts, to 5 years in prison, the press-service of the regional prosecutor’s office has stated.

The court found that in 2015-2016 Makovkin and other members of the criminal group created and distributed malicious software to steal 1.2 billion rubles. Investigators believe that this software was used to hack into the airport’s database.

In December 2016, the defendant made a pre-trial deal with law enforcement and described schemes of access to computer networks and circumstances of the crime. Investigation into other alleged members of the gang is ongoing.
