MOSCOW, October 31 (RAPSI) – Russia’s largest social network VKontakte became a defendant in a lawsuit over provision of a user’s personal data to the law enforcement, attorney of the International human rights organization Agora Dmitry Gerasimov told RAPSI on Wednesday.

The lawsuit was filed with the Smolninsky District Court of St. Petersburg by Lilia Chanysheva. According to available information, the plaintiff asks the court to declare the social network’s actions unlawful and recover 100,000 rubles ($1,500) in moral damages.

According to the case documents, in January, a high-ranking police officer of Bashkortostan’s anti-extremist center asked administration of Vkontakte to disclose information about Chanysheva. He was interested in time and date of the account’s creation as well as personal data used during registration. After the information was provided to the police, Chanysheva became a defendant in an administrative case.
