MOSCOW, December 24 (RAPSI) – Russia’s Supreme Court on Monday upheld sentence for members of a gang led by a notorious Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev in a case over infringement on the life of military servicemen in Chechnya in 2000, the court’s press service told RAPSI.

In July, the North Caucasus District Court sentenced Artur Ushayev and Ruslan Namatov to 19 and 18 years in high security prison respectively.

The court found that in 2000 the men along with other gang members attacked servicemen of the 76th Pskov division of airborne troops in the Republic of Chechnya. As a result of the attack which lasted until March 1, 84 airborne raiders died, and 4 servicemen were injured.
