Moscow court adjourns review of ex-Russian Railways chief dispute with Novaya Gazeta

13:04 01/03/2019

MOSCOW, March 1 (RAPSI) – The Moscow’s Basmanny District Court has adjourned the settlement of a dispute between Vladimir Yakunin, the ex-chief of Russian Railways, and Novaya Gazeta newspaper over an allegedly defamation publication, a RAPSI correspondent reports from the courtroom on Friday.

The court has postponed the hearings until March 13 and ordered the plaintiff to present the evidence required to determine the retraction method in case the dispute is settled in favor of Yakunin.

On February 8, the ex-chief of Russian Railways came to an amicable agreement with Novaya Gazeta in another defamation dispute.

The court has approved the agreement of Yakunin’s lawsuit against the newspaper and journalist Irek Murtazin, the court’s representative said at that time.

Thus, Novaya Gazeta must delete and refute information published in one of the articles that became a point for the lawsuit.

Earlier, the newspaper’s spokesperson Nadezhda Prusenkova has stated that Yakunin was dissatisfied with journalists’ wording in a publication concerning the murder of the Interior Ministry Transport Department’s major case investigator Yevgeniya Shishkina. He claimed that the phrases written in the article about his son and a fund of his friend were false and discredited him, she said.
