Lower house of Russian parliament passes crab fishing quotas bill in second reading

MOSCOW, April 9 (RAPSI) – A bill on introduction of quotas for crab catching passed its second reading in the State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament, on Tuesday.

Investment crab quotas will be allocated based on the results of auctions, an explanatory note to the draft law reads.

Under the bill, 50% of the total allowable crab catch will be provided for this type of quotas. The quota parts will be assigned to their users for 15 years.

Initially, it was supposed that the quotas will be given for 10 years.

Auction winners will be obliged to implement projects on the construction of objects determined by the Russian government.

The third hearing of the bill is scheduled for April 10.
