Russian MPs urge retaliatory measures against US companies over Crimea - report

11:40 29/01/2015

MOSCOW, January 28 (RAPSI) - Russian Communist Party lawmakers are to file a request with the Prosecutor General's Office and the Central Bank to look into the situation with PayPal, Apple, Google and a number of other companies that stopped operating in the Republic of Crimea following sanctions, Izvestia newspaper reported on Thursday.

Russian branches of the US companies should be held liable as well, according to members of the Communist Party Central Committee Valery Rashkin and Sergei Obukhov.

They ask Prosecutor General Yury Chaika to consider stripping PayPal of its Russian license for banking operations in rubles and foreign currency.

On December 19, US President Barack Obama signed a decree banning exports, technology transfer, and other services to the Republic of Crimea. Payment systems Visa and MasterCard stopped serving Russian banks in Crimea just days after sanctions were introduced. PayPal and Google Adsense accounts registered in Crimea will be frozen starting February 1.
